Life is one exam after another, and yesterday I sat another one. It does not matter how well I did, because I found that a whole group of old friends were willing to come and sit it alongside me. That is enough.

On December 4, 2015, I held the launch event for The History Behind Chinese Esports. I am sure I will remember that day for the rest of my life.

Video of the launch event for The History Behind Chinese Esports, with the big names from behind the scenes turning out one after another. Streaming in HD on Youku. http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMTQwNDg5NTIwNA==.html?from=y1.7-2

Wang Xiaopeng, known as Wushou Ge, the Handless Guy, came to the event as well. Thank you!

Former colleagues from WE and Niupu all came. Thank you!

The Heavenly King came too. Thank you!

The group on the sofa are all bosses from behind the scenes, the people who put on WCG China. From the left: Neo, Xiong Jianming, the founder of NeoTV; Ken, now the boss of NeoTV; Wang Jue, a former director at NeoTV; and Zhou Ning, the mastermind behind the StarCraft Old Boys.

The two great heart-throbs of the Counter-Strike era, 117 and Alex. On the far left is BBC.

The next group is a heavyweight one. From the left: Wu Jian, formerly of Blizzard, Wang Xiaodong, bunny and brett. All four were members of Blizzard's Chinese esports team. Wu Jian was a core member of the team behind World of Warcraft under both The9 and Blizzard, and a strong StarCraft player as well. On the far right is Bobi of Tencent Games, former head of TGA and head of marketing for League of Legends.

This group are all old colleagues. From the left: BBC, 117, Sisi and Feiying, whom anyone who was around in the Shanghai Counter-Strike era will probably know; Lao Zhang, a former director at GamesTV; Yang Chen, a CCSK veteran and marketing director in the CGA era; and Haitao.

The next group is the old friends group. From the left: ZAX, founder of WE, Replays.net, StarsWar and Niupu; Xiaocang, a former Warcraft III professional and now a game streamer; Liu Yifeng, a former Warcraft III professional and head of the Shen Xiandao project at Xindong Network; and SKY, who needs no introduction!

This group has plenty of faces everyone will know as well. From the left: EVA Jianxin, author of the Jianxin patch pack; Wang Xiaopeng, the Handless Guy; Ma Tianyuan, one of the first Chinese players to win a WCG world championship gold medal; Lin Xiongmao; MagicYang; and Lawyer Xiong.

The man in the hat is Dai Jinhe, former general manager of Blizzard Greater China.

Lao Yang's closing speech very nearly brought me to tears. I will put out the video of the whole launch as soon as I can.

Finally, my thanks to Wangyu Internet Café (网鱼网咖), and to Huang Feng in particular. While I was still hesitating over whether to hold a launch event at all, Mr Huang told me he was willing to sponsor it and wanted nothing in return. That gave those of us in esports, many of whom had not seen one another for years, a chance to gather again. My thanks to all these people who work quietly behind the scenes for esports.

When my next book comes out, I hope to do it on a bigger and better scale. Everyone can bring their children along and we will turn it into a family party. Thank you all again for coming. I really did put you to a great deal of trouble.
